There are 2 main things to know when submitting recipes: 1. You can post any recipe list that you want (i.e. ½ c flour, 1 tbsp butter, 1 egg, etc.), because you cannot copyright a recipe. (see official recipe copyright law here. This is good news. 2. You can copyright the narrative describing how to make the food. So, even though I doubt many people spend thousands of dollars copyrighting every single recipe narrative, it's only the honest thing to do to put it in your own words.
